In the case of health emergencies or mass casualty incidents, Mission and the news media rely heavily on each other to keep the public informed. Learn about our pledge, what media can expect, and how you can help us.
Our pledge during a disaster:
- We will work hard to provide you timely, accurate information. We may need to do so on this website. During a crisis, go to breaking news update page for information.
- We will not guess or speculate.
- We will accommodate you as much as we can without interfering with patient care.
- We will protect the privacy and dignity of our patients, their families, staff and visitors.
What media can expect during a disaster situation:
- You will be asked for appropriate photo identification.
- You may be asked to wear special identification badges while on our campuses.
- Access to our campuses may be limited or controlled more than normal.
- You will be accompanied by a Mission staff member.
- You will not be allowed access to treatment areas or areas where family and patients are gathered.
- Names of patients will not be released.
- General numbers and types of injuries may be released.
- You will be asked to leave if you approach patients without permission, interfere with care or behave in a way we find unprofessional.
- You will probably be confined to a designated area. If so, media who are waiting in that area will be given first priority when new information becomes available.
We may ask for your help during a disaster:
- Publicizing a phone number for the public to call about their loved ones.
- Providing accurate information and correcting rumors and misinformation.
