Surgery

At Mission, we know how important it is that you have confidence in the treatment you'll receive before, during and after surgery.  What will surgery be like?  How long will I have to be in the hospital?  Have I made the right decisions around having surgery?  Around my surgeon?  All good questions.  And all reasons why you can feel secure about choosing Mission Hospital for your upcoming surgery.

There's strength in numbers.   It's comforting to know that no other hospital system in North Carolina handles more surgeries than Mission.  In fact, we perform over 40,000 surgeries each year, with some of the most excellent outcome rates in the state.  That's because we've got the team, the expertise, the procedures and the technology to make sure your surgery goes as smoothly as possible.

Mission Technology

One of the reasons so many surgeons choose Mission Hospital is the access they have to advanced technology including:
  • daVinci® computer-assisted robotic system - This advanced system allows the surgeon to insert miniaturized instruments and 3-D cameras to perform surgeries through tiny, dime-sized openings.  The technology offers the surgeon greater accuracy and more options, and the patient less pain, less scarring, a reduced risk of infection and faster recovery times.

  • Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) - SILS allows surgeons to perform surgeries by making a single incision through the naval - instead of the multiple incisions made using traditional surgery.  SILS allows surgeons to insert up to three instruments per surgery, making it one of the most preferred surgical technologies currently available.

  • Cyberknife® Radiosurgery - The Cyberknife is a frameless robotic system that administers radiation for the treatment of tumors or lesions anywhere in the body - without surgery.
The CyberKnife system is designed to allow physicians to target treatment more accurately than standard radiotherapy.

Dedicated teams.  Dedicated surgical suites.  Dedicated care.
As a healthcare leader, Mission Hospital attracts top surgeons from across the country.  Our high standards, advanced technology and rigorous credentialing ensure you have access to some of the best specialists in the state.  In addition, many specialties feature their own dedicated surgical suites including:

Each specialty suite is staffed by a team of skilled professionals who work together day after day performing the same types of procedures.

SCIP - Reducing Post Surgical Complications
Patients come to us at some of the most delicate points of their lives.  That's why Mission Hospital has joined a national partnership to prevent post-surgical complications.  SCIP (Surgical Care Improvement Project) is a collaborative effort to promote:

  • Fewer infections at the surgical site
  • Fewer adverse cardiac events
  • Fewer blood clots
  • Fewer episodes of pneumonia

Our SCIP partnership is a commitment to best practices - and one more way we dedicate ourselves to your care before, during and after surgery.
