The Breast Program

You're Not Alone - The Breast Program at Mission is Here to Help

The possibility of having breast cancer can be overwhelming. Women who balance a multitude of responsibilities every day can be stopped in their tracks by a breast cancer diagnosis. They face decisions that will affect the rest of their lives.

The Breast Program at Mission Hospital, located on the second floor at 534 Biltmore Avenue (the Asheville Imaging building), was established to offer coordinated, compassionate care to women with breast cancer. We also provide information, resources and a boutique for breast cancer survivors.

If you're told you need a breast biopsy, our Nurse Navigator will meet with you to explain the process, answer your questions and set up the next step.

If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, we will work with you and your physicians to:

  • Bring together our community's best minds in breast cancer care, including surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, nurses, genetic counselors and other support staff, as we review your individual case and recommend a treatment plan.
  • Provide you with the factual information you need about your treatment options via a Decision Support Session. Our Nurse Navigator will help you understand what to expect with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and the physical and emotional aspects of your decision.
  • Support you and your family throughout your treatment, referring you to whatever resources you need.

While using our services, you can:

  • Borrow books and videos, pick up brochures and access reliable breast health/cancer websites at our resource library.
  • Be prepared for surgery and recovery by meeting with our breast cancer nurse navigator.
  • Find support from our In Good Company breast cancer support group.
  • Talk to someone who has been there.
  • Find beautiful and important items you need at our In Good Company boutique for breast cancer survivors.
  • Teach your friends and loved ones about the benefits of early detection.

The more information and support you have, the more prepared you'll be to make decisions about your care. Our goal is to help you know what to expect at each step, and to feel confident that you're making the best decisions for you. For more information, call 828-213-9990.

Breast Cancer is the No. 2 cancer killer among women. This year, an estimated 211,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States and 40,000 are expected to die from the disease. If you have not scheduled a mammogram within the last year, call your doctor or 828-213-XRAY.
