Upcoming Road Races:
Sunset Stampede and Chamber Challenge

Mission Hospital's Sunset Stampede
May 30, 2009
Asheville's sweatiest, stinkiest, and healthiest party of the year!
Kid Stampede - 8:15 a.m.
10 miler and 5k - 9:00 a.m.
To alleviate congestion at the start of the race, this year's 10 miler will run the course backwards from previous years.
- If you are a total tenderfoot, check out Randy Ashley's link at http://www.sunsetstampede.org/trainingschedule.pdf for advice about getting started. Randy is well versed at getting people through a training program and will ensure that you cross the finish line for the Sunset Stampede with a smile on your face.
- If you haven't tried either race, welcome! The 10 miler has been known to make Kenyans utter one single word over and over at the end of the day (steep!) and is remarkable not just for the climb but for the view. It's a beauty, and was just named as one of the top ten road races in the Southeast by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine (the only NC race to be named). Don't be seduced by city lights or flyin' critters - this is the race for your spring. The 5k runs through a mighty pretty neighborhood with a lovely view of the historic Grove Park Inn. It's gently rolling, and about as flat as you can get in these here parts.
- If you've done any of the races before, welcome back! We hope to continue to improve parts of the race that need work, and we appreciate your support and patience.
Things that stay the same:
- Awesome t-shirts
- Sore legs the next day
Presented by Dixon Hughes, this team-based 5K run is designed to promote community wellness through friendly competition between businesses. The certified course begins and ends at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and winds through the historic Montford neighborhood.
