Fullerton Genetics Center works with the state Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services to provide leadership for FASD prevention efforts. Some of the Center's goals under this contract include:
- Keeping up with the latest FASD research, best practices, and networking with other professionals to increase understanding of FASD issues
- Providing education and materials to healthcare providers, addiction/substance abuse counselors, and caregivers of children.
- Serving as a resource for pregnancy exposures with public and professional groups in North Carolina

Western North Carolina Fetal Alcohol Prevention education program
Created from a March of Dimes grant to Fullerton Genetics Center, this program helps increase awareness of and knowledge about the dangers of drinking while pregnant. The following counties participate in this program:

The program includes:
- Brochures, posters, a DVD, and reminder items for physician offices and community groups
- Education sessions for healthcare providers and staff, and the broader community
- Training of community Fetal Alcohol Prevention Ambassadors and Mentors to provide grass-root level support
This collaborative effort among Fullerton Genetics Center, the community, physician offices, public health agencies, and other professionals serves more than 3,000 people each year.
Other Affiliations
Fullerton Genetics Center is an affiliate of the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS).
The Center is also a part of the Centers for Disease Control & Protection's Great Lakes Regional Training Center. As a part of this regional training center, we help implement trainings for health and allied health professionals and students using the CDC's FASDs curriculum for medical & allied health professionals.
