The people providing your care   Mission Hospital Owen Heart Center

In addition to the excellent facilities of the Owen Heart Center are the caring men and women who work here.

The cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons on Mission's medical staff are known nationally and internationally.

For heart emergencies, care begins during transport to Mission. Our MAMA medical airlift and her flight crew are ready to fly when needed. Our ground transport units are ICUs on wheels, staffed by critical care teams who stay in communication with Mission's Emergency Department physicians, working under their direction to stabilize the patient and begin medical care during transport.

For surgery patients, care begins with pre-operative education by heart nurses, to let you know what to expect, answer questions, and ease your concerns.

During hospitalization, many people are involved in your care Nurses attend to each patient's ongoing needs and often play a crucial role in patient and family education. All intensive care nurses in the heart center are certified in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Many of our nursing staff are Critical Care Registered Nurses (CCRNs) or hold other national certifications. Many of our operating room nurses are also Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).

Case managers (also known as clinical coordinators) work with patients, their families, physicians, and other care team members, following each assigned patient through their hospitalization to ensure smoothly coordinated care.

Discharge planners work with patients and case managers to plan care after you leave the hospital. We send discharge information to your primary care physician so they will have the information they need to provide your continued care.

Nearly 40 volunteers give time, support, and comfort to patients and their families at the Owen Heart Center. Their duties include escort services, patient visits, and family registration. Many have had heart procedures themselves.
