Program Participation

If  you have a well-behaved dog that enjoys meeting people, you may be eligible to become registered as a pet therapy team and volunteer with Paws On A Mission.

In order to qualify your dog must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least a year old and have lived in your household for at least six months
  • Be healthy, parasite-free and up to date on all shots
  • Have basic obedience skills like sit, down/stay, come
  • Be predictable, friendly, gentle and have good manners

Become a volunteer

For you and your pet to become a volunteer, you must adhere to the following requirements:

  1. You and your dog must first be registered as a pet therapy team with Delta Society or TDInc
  2. Meet Mission Hospital's volunteer requirements.
There are also many "Leash-less" volunteer opportunities that do not require you to have a dog to become involved with Paws On A Mission. Leash-less volunteers play a vital role, assisting therapy dog teams during their visits, helping to ensure safety and acting as a liaison with program participants and facility staff members.

If you have questions or would like additional information please call one of our Pet Therapy coordinators at 828-213-0131.
