Support Services

Mission Hospital's  Breast Program uses a multidisciplinary approach that offers many different support resources. Nurse navigators provide education, resources, coordination, and advocacy.

Other resources include:

  • Find prostheses, mastectomy bras, bathing suits, tank tops and lounge wear in our In Good Company Boutique, along with hats and scarves for women facing hair loss, cards, jewelry and more. Our boutique is located on the second floor of the Asheville Imaging Building, at 534 Biltmore Avenue. Appointments are needed for prosthesis fittings. Please call 828-213-1839 or 213-0268 to make sure we're here before you stop by.

  • Receive support from our In Good Company breast cancer support group.  This group focuses on diverse issues such as information on the various treatments for breast cancer, psychosocial issues, nutrition, breast reconstruction, and family dynamics.

  • Receive free mammograms, physicals, blood pressure and other screenings if you are an underinsured woman through Ladies Night Out and qualify for these services. This program, partially sponsored by Mission Hospital, is run by volunteers, including nurses, other hospital employees, and people from the community. Call 828-250-6006 or 828-250-6119 for more information or to volunteer.

  • Practice Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art, in a class designed for women breast cancer survivors. It's slow movements help lymphatic fluid flow and gently strengthen and stretch muscles. Call 828-213-8250 or 828-213-8246 for more information.

  • Participate in Camp Bluebird, a three-day retreat in the mountains of WNC for adult cancer survivors.

  • Get involved breast cancer awareness events like Pink October.

The Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Program at the Buncombe County Health Department helps save the lives of women through early detection. This program provides women between the ages of 40 to 64 who have little or no insurance and meet financial requirements with free examinations. Other women ages 18 to 39 may also be eligible.
